In Lehrte, Lower Saxony, farmers Adrian Bartels and Jens Boedecker are embracing innovative sustainability by transforming horse manure into energy through solid-state fermentation in their biogas plant. Their latest project, the “Solution for Horse Manure,” impressively demonstrates the economic efficiency and ecological benefits of this method.<\/p>\n

Horses, popular as leisure and hobby companions, are an integral part of our daily life. Producing up to 15 kg of manure per day, horse manure has become a significant factor, especially in the context of energy production. In the biogas plant, the stackable manure, along with other organic waste, is fermented into biogas, which is then converted into electricity and heat in combined heat and power plants. Horse manure, particularly from larger operations, which is not optimally utilized in conventional liquid biogas plants and incurs disposal costs, gains new value here.<\/p>\n

Given the approximately 1.2 million horses in Germany and the resulting annual amount of horse manure, which exceeds ten times that in tons, there lies a huge, yet untapped potential for energy production. Additionally, an organic fertilizer is produced, notable for its excellent plant availability.<\/p>\n<\/div>
